Apiary Product Design Challenge – Personalized Learning Platform Concept
Apiary Academy
Designed a personalized learning platform concept for Apiary Academy focused on helping young professionals discover relevant courses, clearly understand skill outcomes, and manage learning progress through goal-driven curation.
The Challenge
Learners faced difficulty understanding what skills they would gain after completing courses, discovering materials aligned with their interests, and organizing courses they wanted to take. Existing learning platforms emphasized content volume over clarity, personalization, and long-term learning direction.
The Process
Translated problem exploration into structured How Might We (HMW) questions around skill visibility, personalization, discovery, and course saving
Conducted competitor analysis across major learning platforms to identify gaps in personalization and outcome transparency
Defined a primary user persona representing young professionals with career-oriented learning goals and limited time availability
Mapped an end-to-end user journey to uncover emotional states, friction points, and unmet needs across the learning lifecycle
Designed a complete user flow from onboarding to learning completion, emphasizing goal-setting and curated discovery
Produced wireframes, high-fidelity UI designs, and an interactive prototype, followed by qualitative usability validation
The Solution
Proposed a goal-based personalized learning experience where users define their current or desired career during onboarding. The platform curates relevant courses on the home page, clearly communicates expected skill outcomes on course detail pages, allows users to save courses for later, and supports ongoing learning through progress visibility and offline access.
